There are many different ways to describe spam, and one person's spam can be another user's useful information. To simplify the issue McAfee Security classifies spam into three groups: malicious spam, advertising spam and friendly spam. Malicious spam is email which could include inappropriate content or security threats, advertising spam is email from legitimate organizations who are generally trying to sell you products or services, and friendly spam is email which contains jokes, chain letters and humorous URL links. Every industry study currently suggests that the volume of spam is growing, they just can't agree on how quickly. There are many estimates on spam, which vary from spam being 25-50% of all email received by organizations.
SpamKiller for Microsoft Exchange Small Business can help to reduce these costs of spam by scanning incoming email as it reaches the Microsoft Exchange 2000 server. Once scanned, the spam email can be quarantined to a server-based junk mail folder, or into the user's junk mail folder.
